Désiré Mathivet

 

(1887-1966)

 

Désiré Mathivet, was a native of Tournus in Southern Burgundy. A room in the Hotel Dieu / Greuze museum in Tournus is dedicted to his work. A pupil of Rodin and of Bourdelle, Mathivet sculptuted massively shaped human figures. His work can be compared with that of Aristide Maillol.

 

 

Condition: There are several small and inconspiciuous chips in the stone and a fissure in the base, running from the base to the left shoe.
