Ernst Otto Leuenberger

 

Portrait of a Peasant Solider

 

Ernst Otto Leuenberger was born in Bern on September 12, 1856 and died in Lugano in 1937. A painter and illustrator, he studied in Munich and Karlsruhe and is best known for his figure studies and genre scenes.

 

This interesting oil study shows a Swiss peasant fighter, holding a sword and gesturing. The artist included an additional study of his head and hand on the same canvas.

 

Leuenberger's works can be found in the art museum of Bern and other collections.

 

The reverse carries the stamped certificate of the estate of Ernst Otto Leuenberger.
