Louis Marchand des Raux

(French, 1904-2000)

The Blue Cat
Pastel Drawing

Louis Marchand des Raux was bon in Touraine in the tiny village of Tourettes where he grew up in such poverty that he was not able to attend school.

His work as a self-taught amateur painter caught the eye of the famous dealer Maeght. Later, as an established painter of colorful naive scenes, he counted the artists Utrillo, Dubuffet, and Giacometti among his many well known friends and associates.
