The Good Soldier

 

 

This charming mid-19th Century pencil drawing is signed H.L. Wys. A soldier on leave from the front, with his sword and backpack at his feet, puts his bicorne hat on a little boy (his son?), who reaches out to tease the soldiers moustache.

 

We have been undable to find more information about the artist.

 

There is an annotation Souvenir d'Amitie (Souvenir of Friendship) bottom right and the artist's signature H.L. Wys, as well as a date, which is illegible.
