Manuel Robbe

( French, 1872 - 1936 )

Manuel Robbe lived in Paris for his entire life, and his body of work is the embodyment of the elegance of the French capital during the Belle Epoche (turn of the century period).

Influenced by the Impressionists, and in particular Renoir, Robbe developed his own techniques of engraving in an effort to capture a painterly style. One of his experimental techniques, which he called "la vie au sucre", using a mixture of sugar, india ink and gum arabic.
