William Müller

 

(Born 15.6.1881 in Berne - died 1918 in Geneva)

 

"Rebecca" - signed and dated [19] 18

 

William Müller was born in Berne, but raised in Geneva by his grandmother after his mother died in childbirth. He was a student of Ferdinand Hodler - whose influence marked him profoundly.

 

Rebecca was painted in March of 1918. The artist died of the Spanish flu in November of that same year.
