Hans Erni is one of Switzerland's best known and best loved Swiss modern artists. His work spans the media of painting, sculpture, ceramic, and tapestries, but he is perhaps best known for his beautiful color lithographs. Throughout his life, Erni has remained a great admirer of Picasso and his use of line and classical images recall the spirit of Picasso's early work.

The Hans Erni Museum in his native museum is dedicated to his work.

Erni is listed in major art references including the Grove Dictionary of Art and the Benezit.
